Throughout the 2017-2018 concert season, musicians may be highlighted in efforts to promote the Omaha Area Youth Orchestras (OAYO) activities and achievements. For example, musicians may be featured in grant applications and/or to increase a public awareness of OAYO through newspapers, radio, TV, social media platforms, CDs, videos, displays, brochures and other types of media.

In order to do this, we would like your permission.  If you would like examples of things we post and photos we share, check out our Facebook page or browse through some photos in our media gallery.

Please fill out this form to provide your consent.

If you wish to not be included we also need you to fill out the form to let us know what you do not wish to be shared.

Who are you?

Member of Board of Directors

Please share a little bit about yourself!

I am the Vice President of Education & Community Engagement for the Omaha Symphony. I am married to another OAYO alum – Craig Mathis (Trombone – graduated 2007). Outside of my work with the Omaha Symphony and OAYO I also work with the Millard North Band program as a brass tech during marching and concert band season. I’m also involved with the Nebraska State Bandmaster Association and have been the Corporate Sponsor and Exhibit Chair since 2015.

How long have you been involved with OAYO?

I joined OAYO in 2000 as a 6th grader in Honors Orchestra. I moved up through the orchestras (YCO, YP and finally YS).

Tell us about your musical background and/or what you appreciate about music?

by Sadie Hernandez

I have been involved in music my entire life. My mother is a church organist and had me singing in choir since I could walk. I began playing French Horn in 5th grade and have loved it ever since. I actually have a degree in horn performance from UNL and have worked with several music/arts organizations since graduating (National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, CO; National Symphony in Washington DC; Lied Center in Lincoln, NE; Omaha Performing Arts and most recently the Omaha Symphony). My husband is a band director as well. Safe to say – music incredibly important in our lives.

What do you enjoy most about working with OAYO?

Knowing that students are getting the experiences that I had is the best part of working with OAYO. My school did not have an orchestra program (just band) and the teachers I met, the music I played, the friends and mentors I gained was incredible. I want to make sure that other students get that opportunity.

Please share why do you continue to support OAYO?

I support OAYO because I would not be where I am today with OAYO. I would not know about my career without the mentors I gained, I wouldn’t have known much about orchestras without OAYO, heck – I met my husband in OAYO! If I could pinpoint one pivotal moment in my life – one thing that I am SO incredibly grateful that my mom was able to say yes to – it would be joining the Honors Orchestra in 6th grade. OAYO changed my life!

If you registered for an audition and were waiting for a confirmation, we thank you for your patience!  Your time is now scheduled and you can log in to your AuditionScheduler profile to find out what it is!

http://www.theauditionscheduler.com/

If any of the information is incorrect, or you absolutely cannot make your scheduled time, please contact Michelle Johnson at michelle.johnson@oayo.org to make the necessary corrections. This will give us the maximum amount of time to ensure that your audition runs smoothly. There are several options for rescheduling and we will need to discuss these with you.

Preparing for the Audition

A Guide to preparing for your Audition is found on our website at http://oayo.org/auditions/ You are welcome to call us with questions. If anything concerns you, let us know. We are here to help. Your school music teacher, a private teacher, Aviva and our music and administrative staff are each ready and willing to answer questions!

Audition Day:

Step 1. Double check the LOCATION SITE and TIME for your Audition.

Step 2. Double check that you bring:
ALL of your music:
The solo (even if you have it memorized)
The scales (if you plan on having your scales in front of you during the audition)
Your Excerpt(s) (if you are auditioning for either Youth Philharmonic or Youth Symphony)
A pencil
Your instrument

Step 3. Plan on arriving at least 30 minutes before your schedule Audition time. This allows you time to tune your instrument and to play through your scales, solo and excerpt. It also allows for travel time, traffic congestion of any other surprises that may occur on route to your audition.

When you arrive and check in, you will be able to warm-up. Private warm-up rooms are not available. Parents are welcome in the warm up rooms, but may not be in or near the Audition Rooms.

Thank you for all your hard work preparing for your audition.

P.S. OAYO does not have your log in information for your auditionscheduler profile. If you have trouble logging in, please call the office at 402-238-2044 and we can vocally confirm your audition time.
