One of the organization’s most anticipated events, the Youth Symphony and Omaha Symphony Chamber Orchestra perform “side by side.”
Throughout the year, Youth Symphony musicians participate in coaching sessions and combined rehearsals offered by members of the Omaha Symphony Chamber Orchestra and appreciate the guidance and musical insights the professional musicians provide.
The program includes works by Borodin, Elgar and Verdi. The concert will conclude with John Williams’ March of the Resistance and Rey’s Theme from the movie Star Wars – The Force Awakens.
Verdi’s stirring Forza del Destino overture is one of his most performed overtures in the concert hall. There is nothing like hearing it with the professionalism and experience of the Omaha Symphony combined with the enthusiasm and promise of Youth Symphony
Elgar intended Nimrod to be a musical portrait of his great friend, wise publisher, and tireless supporter, August Jaeger. This lyrical movement from Elgar’s Enigma Variations is often played as a final tribute to truly exceptional people. This performance will be dedicated to Richard Holland and this piece in particular pays homage to one of Omaha’s finest citizens.
The concert will conclude with the force of two great orchestras, the Omaha Area Youth Orchestras’ Youth Symphony and the Omaha Symphony performing the powerful March of the Resistance and masterful Rey’s theme from Star Wars, the Force Awakens.
Over 60 musicians auditioned and won placement in this orchestra in April 2016. They commit to weekly rehearsals, instrument group sectional coaching and intense individual study.
