January Alumni Reading Draws More than 100 Musicians

More than 100 musicians participated in OAYO's 2015 Alumni Reading of Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite (1919) Sunday, Jan. 4 at UNO's Strauss Performing Arts Center.

Musicians included 23 OAYO alumni, members of OAYO's Youth Symphony, as well as musicians from the Omaha Symphony, Heartland Philharmonic and Orchestra Omaha.

Conductors included OAYO Music Director Aviva Segall as well as guest conductor and OAYO alumnus Vimbayi Kaziboni. Kaziboni, who led the "Infernal dance of King Kashchei," is the founding artistic director and chief conductor of "What's Next," a post-classical music collective devoted to performing cutting edge music from Southern California and beyond.

21 OAYO Musicians Selected for UNO's 2015 BOCH Festival Ensembles

We’re pleased to share that 21 OAYO students have been selected to participate in the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s 2015 BOCH (Band, Orchestra, Choir and the Holland) Festival Ensembles!

The annual festival, founded in 2007, brings together more than 450 students from across Nebraska and the Midwest to work with nationally renowned clinicians. This unique experience will culminate with a final performance planned for 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St.
